It all started in the lower level of a St. Louis car dealership back in 1957. Enterprise founder Jack Taylor and a handful of his co-workers started a one-shop rental car company based on a simple philosophy: "Take care of your customers and employees first, and profits will follow." The current business model is a direct result of Jack Taylor's simple, but powerful belief and of how that belief relates to customer satisfaction, employee development, fleet growth, and profitability. Following this model has enabled Enterprise to achieve revenue and income growth every year since inception.
No wonder our Ranken graduates seek out jobs with Enterprise. Enterprise has been ranked by BusinessWeek as one of the “50 Best Places to launch a career” for the past three years; on BusinessWeek’s list of “Customer Service Champs;” the largest college recruiting company in the United States as listed by Black Collegian magazine and CollegeGrad.com; and ranks in the Top 50 Most Respected Companies in the U.S. based on customer survey results. Enterprise has received the 2005 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award for its support of its employees working in the National Guard and Reserve. The list of awards continues; to view the entire list of awards received and to learn more about Enterprise go to http://aboutus.enterprise.com .
Each year Enterprise participates in Ranken job fairs and is a Corporate Sponsor and Partner. Enterprise continues to grow strong leaders every day, with many starting at branch management positions. This business strength is critical to the company’s continued success. Enterprise hires smart, motivated individuals and teaches them to run a business by delivering exceptional customer service. Many of these are Ranken graduates. Thousands of employees from the rental branch offices have advanced to the highest levels of operating management. In fact, most Enterprise operating managers begin their careers at the branch-office level, growing their local operation one customer at a time.
Currently, Enterprise has 26 Ranken graduates employed in various branches and divisions. While the rental business provides many opportunities, Enterprise also provides other rewarding career paths through its FleetServices, Car Sales and Commercial Trucks divisions, as well as in support functions such as accounting, information technology and human resources.
Anthony Berger (IT 2007) says, “Enterprise is still doing well in the current state of the economy. Even though they have had to lay off personnel, they keep trying to put their employees and customers first before their own ambitions.” He further states, “The company means a lot to me. During my 2 years in employment they have helped me gain professionalism and learn how to adapt in a corporate environment. I have also experienced a couple of personal issues that they worked with me in every extent during those hard times. I believe they went above and beyond what I have ever experienced with any previous employer and sent flowers to my grandfather's funeral to show their support not only for me but for my family. I didn't even give them the location or any additional information other than I had a family member pass.” Anthony currently works in the Enterprise as a Support Analyst
Fleet Administration Support in the Technical Support Center in Clayton, MO.
Enterprise has been a donor to Ranken Technical College since 1980; over this long-term relationship, its donations total more than $1 million. Contributions have supported the Automotive Division as well as other student support services and programs. Jack Taylor, founder of the company, has made two seven-figure gifts to support the High Performance Racing Program and the Welding and Fabrication Program. Ranken is proud to be part of the Enterprise and Taylor Family list of beneficiaries in St. Louis. Ranken has seen much growth and change on campus and in the classroom based on generous support from Enterprise.
